Peace of mind

"South Auckland Motors has been using the MotorWeb VIR system for some time now and we are extremely pleased with this service. It provides comprehensive vehicle and MVSR details quickly and efficiently, and is very user friendly. We consider the small cost involved to be money well spent for the peace-of-mind it provides."

Thousands of New Zealand vehicles have hidden problems that can't be easily detected. It can be frustrating, time consuming and sometimes just too difficult to thoroughly check the full legal status and history of a vehicle you are about to trade or purchase.

To many dealers the VIR™ (The Vehicle Information Report™) is fast becoming the "on-line detective" when it comes to risk management of vehicle trading. The VIR provides a simple and fast way to "check it before you own it".

Here's how it works. Using just the plate or VIN number, vehicle information is gathered instantly from various government and private databases. The VIR's unique data analysis engine will then automatically display an alert message for any one of the 42 checks performed. Even staff without motor industry experience can clearly see if there are any problems.

Last month alone, the VIR showed more than one "inconsistent odometer reading" a day. A similar number of vehicles had been "deregistered in the past". These sorts of warnings will allow you to be more informed when pricing vehicles.

The VIR has also highlighted the importance of using the vehicle's current and past plates when checking for money owing. Of the registered security interests found using the VIR service, 28% had incorrect VIN or chassis numbers. Some of these would not have been found using only the current plate. (The VIR automatically checks all plates.)

With the peace of mind that comes with using the VIR, you should "Never buy a car without a VIR."
